The first event of the EUPAC project: "Social interaction, stability and peace: history of the European Union, procedures and perspectives" has been held with the collaboration of experts the Norwegian Centre for Conflict Resolution "NOREF".


In this event, which was held on Sunday, August 12, 2022, in the Faculty of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issues related to peace building and dispute resolution processes in the European Union were discussed.


Dr. Gholamali Chegnizadeh, the project coordinator, along with Dr. Marte Heian-Engdal, the the deputy director of NOREF, were among the main lecturer of this workshop. Marte Engdal pointed out the distance between theoretical views and the operational measures of diplomacy in conflicts. She brought up several NOREF's experiences in resolving various disputes all over the world, and addressed the sensitivities of mediation to resolve disputes and violent conflicts.


Are Gellein Blikeng, senior advisor of NOREF, explained the reasons for the first and second world wars and pointed out that peace can lead to another war if it is achieved with unfair conditions. Referring to the military conflict between Ukraine and Russia, he addressed the potential consequences of this conflict and the possible ways to resolve it.


At the end of this workshop, researchers and invited professors raised questions and side discussions about the main topic.
